EMDR Therapy

At The Good Life Therapy Centre, our dedicated team of therapists offers Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, a powerful approach for healing trauma and emotional distress. We understand that seeking support for past experiences can be challenging, and we’re here to provide a relaxed and relatable environment where you can feel comfortable exploring your emotions.

What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR is specifically designed to help individuals process and integrate traumatic memories that may contribute to anxiety, depression, and other emotional difficulties. By utilising guided eye movements and bilateral stimulation, EMDR therapy helps to reduce the emotional charge of distressing memories, enabling healthier coping mechanisms and emotional resilience.

How Does EMDR Work?

Our EMDR therapy is structured around an eight-phase protocol that includes:

1. History Taking: We will work with you to understand your background and identify specific traumatic memories to focus on.

2. Preparation: Creating a safe and supportive atmosphere while explaining the EMDR process to ensure you feel secure.

3. Assessment: Identifying negative beliefs associated with your memories and measuring your level of distress.

4. Desensitization: Engaging in bilateral stimulation while you recall the traumatic memory, helping to lessen its emotional impact.

5. Installation: Fostering positive beliefs to replace any negative thoughts related to the trauma.

6. Body Scan: Checking for any residual tension or discomfort in your body connected to the trauma.

7. Closure: Returning to a state of equilibrium and discussing your experience during the session.

8. Re-evaluation: Assessing your progress and addressing any remaining issues in follow-up sessions.

Benefits of EMDR Therapy

Our team has seen many clients experience significant relief from the burdens of past trauma after just a few sessions of EMDR therapy. It is particularly effective for treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and phobias. The structured yet flexible nature of EMDR empowers you to process emotions at your own pace, allowing for lasting transformation.

If you are ready to take the courageous step toward healing and emotional well-being, our team at The Good Life Therapy Centre is here to support you on this journey. Together, we can unlock the potential for a brighter future through EMDR therapy.

Let’s Get Started

When thinking about starting EMDR therapy or finding a new EMDR therapist, here are a few things to consider:

1) Schedule – Weekly or fortnightly EMDR therapy sessions have proven to be the most effective, so it’s worth considering when you will have availability around work, school, or family.

2) Cost – EMDR Therapy is an investment in yourself. That said, our centre offers a range of therapy services at different rates.

3) Area of Focus – While most EMDR therapists cover a range of areas, it is important to consider any specialty support you may need (OCD, trauma, domestic violence, maternal mental health, Neurodivergence, etc).
