Depression | Good Life Therapy | Topsham

What if I told you that you are NOT a depressed person?

Would you turn around right now and look for a different provider who focuses on a diagnosis? Or, would you be intrigued as to where I am going with this?

Hear me out.

I am not saying there’s not a part of you that isn’t feeling depressed. Obviously, that’s the case or you wouldn’t be reading this. What I am saying is that I see you – not your diagnosis.

I see a complex person with years and years of love and loss, trials and tribulations, strengths and weaknesses, and an entire system built to either hold you up or ensure your downfall. Your story is unique, and complicated, and beautiful.

And above all else, you are NOT your depression.

Depression is absolutely debilitation.. and can I just take a moment to acknowledge the strength it’s taken to get to this point? That’s no small feat. But if you don’t want to celebrate the win, that’s totally fine. I’m still celebrating you.

You may find therapy for depression helpful if you’re experiencing the following for an extended amount of time:

      • low mood, sadness, hopeless and helpless
      • changes in appetite or weight
      • having low self-esteem
      • feeling tearful or guilt-ridden
      • low energy and/or sex drive
      • feeling irritable and intolerant of others
      • having no motivation or interest in things you used to find enjoyable
      • unexplained aches or pains
      • finding it difficult to make decisions
      • difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
      • feeling anxious or worried
      • avoiding contact with friends and/or family
      • having suicidal thoughts or thoughts of harming yourself

How can you help me?

First and foremost, I will listen to you attentively and empathetically. Depression is a b*tch and can make you feel isolated and misunderstood, but you are not alone. I want you to know that I see you and I am here to validate your experiences and emotions.

I will provide a relaxed, authentic, and supportive environment where you can freely express your feelings (or lack there of) without fear of judgment.

Together, we will come up with goals that feel good to you. In the meantime, we will develop strategies and coping mechanisms that can help you manage your depression symptoms and improve your overall well-being. Ultimately, the goal is to kick depression in the butt and get your life back, right?

The let’s do it.

Alright, I'm in.. but what's this going to look like exactly?

Throughout our work together, I will help you explore the underlying causes and triggers of your depression.. yep, we’re likely going back to childhood.. but hear me out – by gaining a deeper understanding of the uniqueness that is you and your story, we can work towards developing effective strategies for serious, long-term healing and growth.

I know this sounds like hard work but I’ve got you.

I will provide you with all the tools and techniques to identify the source of your negative thoughts and beliefs; and above all else, I will make sure you feel supported throughout the entire process.

I will also educate you about depression and its symptoms, helping you gain insight into your own, unique experiences. Understanding the nature of depression can be empowering, as it allows you to recognize patterns and triggers, and develop kick-ass strategies to manage them effectively.
