Devon McGahey | Good Life Therapy | Therapist and Life Coach | Topsham, England

Welcome to Good Life Therapy!

Like I’ve said before, I’m really glad you’re here!

My name is Devon McGahey and I am an American therapist living and working in the lovely town of Topsham, England.

So, you may be thinking two things: 1) how does an American end up in Topsham, and 2) how are you going to help me?

I’m so glad you’ve asked!

So, my story really isn’t all that interesting, but I do believe that so much of therapy is about your connection with your therapist. Whilst we’ve been drilled in grad school about the role of self-disclosure in therapy, I am choosing to give you a brief rundown so you know more about the person behind the notebook.

After graduating with my degree in Marketing, I followed my heart (aka a boy) to the UK. We lived happily in Topsham until 2019 when we decided to return to America and start our family. 4 years, 3 kids, 2 years of grad school, and 1 pandemic later, I have returned to our home in Topsham with a new calling.

The transition from Marketing to Psychotherapy is actually a very obvious one. I treasured connecting with other people and learning about the psychology behind consumerism. Whilst this was interesting, I wasn’t fulfilled in simply marketing things. I wanted to understand people in a way that could support them, not sell to them.

Cue grad school.

Over the past 3 years, I have been working at a group practice in Alabama, learning from the best of the best. Watching the transformational powers of therapy is what drove me to seek this career path. I have spent countless hours in the classroom, and even more one-to-one with clients. I am incredibly passionate about the work that I do for my clients.

Okay, on to question 2 – ‘how are you going to help me?’

Whilst I have the book-learned knowledge, I also have a life full of experiences. And on top of all of that, I have a passion for helping others that rocks me to the bones.

I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. I’ve spent years studying and honing my skills in therapy and life coaching, so you can trust that I know my stuff. But here’s the thing: I don’t want our sessions to feel like a stuffy, clinical experience. I want them to feel like a chat with a friend (who just happens to have a bunch of helpful tools and strategies up their sleeve).

Our work together doesn’t have to be a formal or serious affair. I offer a warm and friendly approach to help you navigate the ups and downs of life. Picture me as your go-to confidante, your sounding board, and your biggest cheerleader.

What sets me apart is my commitment to making therapy and life coaching a casual and enjoyable experience. I believe that laughter and light-heartedness can coexist with deep introspection and personal growth. My sessions are designed to be engaging and interactive, incorporating various therapeutic techniques and activities that suit your unique needs and preferences.

Located in the beautiful town of Topsham, England, I strive to create a comfortable and non-judgmental environment where you can truly be yourself. I am not only a highly trained professional but also a human-being who genuinely cares about your well-being.

I believe in creating a safe and non-judgmental space where you can be your authentic self. No masks, no pretenses, just you. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, or seeking a life coach, I’m here to listen, support, and guide you through it all.

But the work we do isn’t just about talking and venting (although that’s definitely part of it!). It’s also about empowering you with practical tools and strategies to help you navigate life’s challenges. I’ll work with you to develop personalised coping mechanisms, mindfulness techniques, and self-care practices that fit seamlessly into your busy life.

My client’s will vouch for me – I keep it real. I won’t sugarcoat things or give you generic advice. Instead, I’ll offer you honest and practical guidance that’s tailored to your unique situation. We’ll laugh together, cry together, and celebrate your victories along the way.

So, if you’re ready to embark on this journey of self-discovery and growth, I’m here to walk alongside you. Together, we’ll navigate the twists and turns of life, and you’ll come out the other side feeling stronger, more resilient, and ready to take on the world.

Remember, life can be hard but it really is a good life – and it’s my mission for you to agree.

The joy is in the journey.
